Carpets in Wakefield, matched room by room
Bedrooms, stairs, lounges and hallways all need something different from a carpet. We'll bring the samples to you and help you get each room right.
Cut pile, loop pile and what the difference means
Cut pile carpets — twists and saxonies — have the tops of the yarn loops cut off, which gives a soft surface. Twists are tightly wound so they spring back and hide footprints; saxonies stand taller and feel plusher, which makes them lovely in a bedroom but less forgiving on a busy landing.
Loop pile carpets keep the loops intact. That makes a flatter, tougher surface with a bit of texture, and it's why Berber-style loops are so often chosen for hallways and stairs.

Carpets we'll lay out in your home

Saxony
Long, upright pile with a rich, velvety look. Our go-to suggestion for bedrooms and quieter sitting rooms.

Twist
Britain's favourite all-rounder. Springy, footprint-hiding and suited to almost any room in the house.

Loop and Berber
Uncut loops for a firm, textured finish that takes a lot of foot traffic. Great on stairs.

Wool and wool blends
Naturally springy and warm, and it keeps its looks well over time. A premium choice for lounges.

Polypropylene
Bleach cleanable and stain resistant — the sensible pick for homes with pets, small children or tenants.
Underlay: the part you never see
Underlay changes how a carpet feels, how warm and quiet the room is and how long the carpet lasts — a good one can add up to 50% to a carpet's life. Laying new carpet over old, flattened underlay is a false economy.
Our Silver, Gold and Platinum full house deals include free 8mm, 9mm or 11mm underlay. On other jobs we'll suggest the right underlay for each room and price it clearly in your quote.
- Softer feel underfoot
- Less noise through the floor
- Extra warmth
- More even wear and a longer-lasting carpet

Choosing a carpet: your questions
Should I pick twist or saxony for a bedroom?
Either works. Saxony feels softer and looks more luxurious but shows footprints and vacuum marks more; twist is a little firmer but more forgiving day to day. If the bedroom doubles as a play room or a home office, twist is usually the safer bet.
Is a wool carpet worth paying more for?
In a lounge you plan to keep for years, often yes. Wool is naturally resilient, so the pile recovers well, and it's warm and naturally flame resistant. For a rental or a room that sees a lot of spills, a bleach-cleanable polypropylene may serve you better.
Which carpet copes best with pets?
A loop or twist in polypropylene is hard to beat, as it can be cleaned with a diluted bleach solution. Avoid loose loops if your pet likes to scratch, as claws can catch them — we'll show you tighter options on the visit.
How thick should my underlay be?
It depends on the room. Thicker underlay feels more cushioned and suits bedrooms and lounges; on stairs a firmer underlay holds the carpet tight to the nosings. Our full house deals include 8mm, 9mm or 11mm underlay depending on the package.
